Diamonds are not considered a girl’s
best friend for nothing. In fact, diamond rings are especially celebrated. We
look at some of the most famous ladies in history and their prominent diamond
rings for inspiration, just in case you’re designing your own
engagement ring in the near future.
Queen
Elizabeth II’s Solitaire Diamond Ring
While not Her Majesty's largest piece of
jewellery, Queen Elizabeth II’s solitaire diamond ring is considered one of the
most popular jewellery that the Queen owns. A 3-carat solitaire
diamond is the center stone for the platinum band. Five smaller diamonds
flank each side of the impressive stone. But what makes it more valuable is
because of its sentimental and symbolic value. This particular ring was
presented by Prince Philip to Princess Elizabeth in 1947, when he asked for her
hand in marriage. No wonder this is the Queen’s most frequently worn piece of
jewellery.
Princess
Diana’s Blue Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring
An oval-shaped blue sapphire surrounded
by tiny solitaire diamonds mounted on a white gold band was used by the Prince
of Wales to propose to Lady Diana Spencer. Princess Diana picked the ring for
herself.
Prince Charles’ son, Prince William,
proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010 with his mother’s ring. While this was a
controversial piece of jewellery, a generic purchase in from a jeweller, during
Princess Diana’s time, her popularity has made the ring one of the most famous
diamond rings in existence. Further adding to the ring’s fame and value is the Duchess
of Cambridge keeping its beauty and symbolic meaning alive.
Jacqueline Kennedy’s Emerald and Diamond Wedding Ring
Jacqueline Kennedy, who is known for being a trendsetter, owns an 8 carat ring of diamonds and emeralds. In 1953, John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Lee Bouviere with a Van Cleef & Arpels’ engagement ring, which featured a 2.88 carat weight diamond as well as a 2.84 carat weight emerald. In 1963, the ring was redone with 2.12 carats of marquise and diamonds added so that it now weighed almost 8 carats worth.
